STREET OF MEMES

June 3rd, 2010

Wanderism co-editor I admit it. I’m egocentric. Proof of this comes from my quest to find street intersections that sport my name.

Most people can find a street in their city that matches their first or last name. That’s easy. But your whole name? Not so much.

When I travel to new North American and UK or Irish destinations I always scan maps of the area to see if I can find the Holy Grail of my anthroponym.

I’ve had a number of close calls, where roads named Douglas and Murray come tantalizingly close to each other. But only once have I found a case of them actually intersecting.

This is me at the intersection of my name in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. I happened to be in Toronto when I spotted the intersection in a regional atlas. Of course I dropped everything just to get the above location.

I hope to find another. But regardless, I have a great author photo for my great travel adventure… that I’ve yet to write.
