Are We There Yet?

Why Wanderism…? You might as well ask, ‘Why travel?’
Your humble editors have been roaming the planet (this one, none of the others… yet!) for the better part of forty years combined. Together and separately we have managed to take our favourite pasttimes — travel, photography and writing — and parley it into successful careers.
In our businesses and in our personal lives, like most people we turn to the Internet for information about destinations, flights, cruises, international customs, hotels… everything from renting a car to booking a room to finding a decent meal. There are plenty of excellent resources available online to help us do all that, and many travel-based magazines have companion websites that ‘repurpose’ portions of their print materials. These resources assist us all in planning a trip. But something’s missing.
What about a website that can act as a travel portal, and give you ideas, supply links to other beneficial sites, display photography and video of amazing destinations, and showcase some of the best travel writing from sources all over the world? What about a travel website that entertains as well as informs? What about a travel website that becomes a ‘first responder’ to your travel thoughts?
That’s the website we’ve been looking for. But we discovered that there is a dearth of really good travel-based websites out there, and a whole lot of bad ones. You can spend your time bouncing from one end of the web to the other trying to find information when all you really want is a decent starting point, a place that can hopefully lead you in the right direction. A ‘port of entry’, so to speak. Well, that’s what we want Wanderism to be.
Think of Wanderism as the place that takes the old axiom, ‘Having a wonderful time - wish you were here’, and turns it on its ear.
A good travel article or a good travel TV show should do one major thing - instill in its audience the desire to duplicate the experience. That’s what we want to do too.
So, why Wanderism…? Because travel happens!
